The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes the International\nIndonesia Gastrodiplomacy Series (IGS) Diplomatic Tour 2026, attended by\ndozens of partner country delegations from 23\u201325 June 2026 in Makassar,\nSouth Sulawesi, will yield economic investment diplomacy across various\npotential aspects.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough this IGS moment, we are opening doors and facilitating what\nthe regions need,\u201d said Ani Nigeriawati, Director of Public Diplomacy at\nthe Ministry\u2019s Directorate General of Information and Public Diplomacy,\nduring a press conference ahead of the IGS in Makassar on Monday.<\/p>\n
She said Makassar was chosen as the host city for the IGS Diplomatic\nTour 2026 because it possesses numerous investment-worthy potentials,\nsuch as tourism, culinary heritage, and more.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst, promoting the potential that Makassar has, from trade and\ninvestment aspects to tourism and its rich culinary scene. Every region\nin Indonesia has culinary potential; Indonesia is very rich in that\nregard,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n
These elements, she noted, can be converted into business and\ninvestment potential while also bridging communication between\ninternational delegations.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause they don\u2019t know each other yet, they must first get\nacquainted, explore opportunities, and then establish communication. The\nfollow-up and output we hope for is an effective initial gateway for\nbuilding networks, communication, and ultimately cooperative\nrelationships. Secondly, we also hope to spark interest in exporting\nMakassar\u2019s flagship products,\u201d Ani said.<\/p>\n
She added that this would open wider investment opportunities across\nvarious potentials, including sister-city cooperation or city\ndiplomacy.<\/p>\n
Thirdly, she expressed hope that the visiting delegates would bring\ntourists from their home countries to enjoy Makassar\u2019s natural beauty\nand understand its history.<\/p>\n
Firman Hamid Pagarra, Assistant III for General Administration of the\nMakassar City Government, added that this event serves as a means to\nenhance collaboration between the Makassar city administration and the\nattending partner countries.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the Makassar city government can establish communication\nwith representatives of Indonesian embassies abroad to organise cultural\nfestivals encompassing arts, food, and business forums. It also allows\nfor the exchange of information regarding policies and regulations for\nproducts to be exported to partner countries.<\/p>\n
