Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of\nForeign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, stated that the ministry, together with\nthe Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli, is communicating with and monitoring\nthe condition of AJ, who is currently in Benghazi, eastern Libya. \u201cThe\nIndonesian Embassy in Tripoli has confirmed that AJ is currently safe,\nhealthy, and has not suffered any injuries or wounds,\u201d Heni said in a\nwritten response to reporters in Jakarta on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The embassy is conducting further investigation with relevant\nparties, including AJ and the employer, to obtain a full picture of the\nchronology of events leading to the worker\u2019s request to return home.\nAccording to Heni, investigations with a local agency revealed that AJ\nhas been working in Benghazi since March 2025, but the placement route\nwas found to be non-compliant with procedures by the sponsor.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli will continue to coordinate with\nrelevant parties and local authorities to handle this case,\u201d Heni\nstated. She also reiterated an appeal to the public planning to work\nabroad to comply with applicable regulations and only depart through\nofficial, procedural channels to ensure the protection of migrant\nworkers\u2019 rights and safety.<\/p>\n
The case came to light after information about AJ surfaced on social\nmedia on 26 June, with a circulating video showing AJ crying and\npleading for help to return to Indonesia. The worker claimed to have\nreceived unpleasant treatment and was forced to work without rest as a\ndomestic worker in Benghazi, Libya.
