Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono has stated that the deployment of\n8,000 TNI troops to Palestine will be carried out in phases, with the\npeacekeeping force initially stationed in Rafah.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe it will be gradual, because as I mentioned, the phases\nthere are also divided into several sectors. The details are not yet\nfinalised, but there will be roughly five sectors, with the total number\nof troops expected to be around 20,000 or possibly more across all\nsectors. But this is something that will be progressive,\u201d Sugiono said\nduring a press briefing in Washington DC on Friday (20 February 2026)\nlocal time.<\/p>\n
Sugiono affirmed Indonesia\u2019s commitment to sending peacekeeping\ntroops to Gaza to protect civilians there. He also said that a timeline\nfor the troop deployment would be prepared shortly.<\/p>\n
When asked whether the peacekeeping force under the Board of Peace\nwould be stationed in Rafah, Sugiono confirmed this but said he did not\nyet know the precise details.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will start from there (Rafah), they said yesterday, but the\ndetails will come later \u2014 what the operations will look like, what the\ntheatre will look like,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Sugiono also addressed the question of who would serve as Deputy\nCommander leading the Indonesian contingent. He said the identity had\nnot yet been determined and that the selection would be left to the\nTNI.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s not yet clear (the Deputy Commander figure). That will be for\nthe TNI to decide,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Palestine Agrees to Indonesian Troop Deployment<\/strong><\/p>\n Sugiono further stated that the Palestinian side was already aware of\nIndonesia\u2019s plan to send peacekeeping troops to Gaza and had agreed to\nthe decision.<\/p>\n \u201cYesterday there was also Palestine present \u2014 Prof.\u00a0Dr Ali Saad was\nthere as the Palestinian representative who is also the Chairman of the\nNCAG, the National Committee on Administration of Gaza. So Palestine was\nalso there, already informed, already understood, and we had also\nconveyed our National Caveat, so everyone has been involved,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n Sugiono said that the Palestinian representative, Ali Saad, conveyed\nthat what they needed was a safe and stable situation.<\/p>\n \u201cSo the first key to this entire comprehensive plan is a ceasefire,\nthen creating a safe and stable environment before the subsequent phases\ncan be carried out.
