Foreign journalists detained<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Two foreign journalists were detained by the
\npolice yesterday after they were found to have entered the
\nPeople's Consultative Assembly building without authorized
\npasses, City Police spokesman Lt. Col. Edward Aritonang was
\nquoted by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n
The news agency named one of the journalists as Step van Esse
\nfrom NOSTV of the Netherlands, while the other's identity was not
\nrevealed.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Military Command spokesman Lt. Col. D.J. Nachrowi
\ndenied reports that the two were first questioned by the military
\nbefore they were handed over to the police.<\/p>\n
"No. We did not question them. It is the responsibility of the
\nJakarta police," said Nachrowi.<\/p>\n
Lt. Col. Bambang Gandhi, who is in charge of the security in
\nthe compound, said he did not want to take even the smallest risk
\nand that his men were safeguarding the ongoing General Session in
\naccordance with the instructions of the Armed Forces Chief and
\nthe Jakarta Military Chief.<\/p>\n
"We work 24 hours... we handle... things such as bomb
