        "content": "<p>Foreign campuses allowed to open<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia is soon to allow foreign<br>\nuniversities to set up branches in the country in a major policy<br>\nchange analysts said could help cut down the overseas-education<br>\nbill and save foreign exchange.<\/p>\n<p>\"Besides cutting down the 2.5 billion ringgit (US$1 billion)<br>\nannual outflow due to Malaysians studying abroad, the move could<br>\nhelp produce more skilled personnel to help Malaysia's<br>\nindustrialization pursuits,\" a private educator said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Education Minister Najib Tun Razak said late Wednesday that<br>\nthe cabinet had approved the draft of two education bills that<br>\nwould also allow local private organizations to apply to<br>\nestablish universities in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the government would, however, only allow<br>\n\"premier and sound foreign universities with good financial<br>\nbackgrounds, infrastructure and expertise in the science and<br>\ntechnology fields to set up branch campuses.\"<\/p>\n<p>Malaysia has some 60,000 students studying overseas.<\/p>",
