Ford launches Thai outlets<\/p>\n
BANGKOK (AP): After testing Thailand's automotive after-sales
\nmarket with a chain of parts and service centers, Ford Motor Co.
\nis plunging ahead by setting up stores to sell parts to wholesale
\ncustomers, an executive said.<\/p>\n
The Parts Point stores, the first opened this month, are a
\nspinoff of the 30-branch B-Quik chain, which is part of Ford's
\nsubsidiary Automotive Consumer Service Group, said Wachira
\nYongyai, B-Quik Service Company's general manager.<\/p>\n
Ford established B-Quik in Thailand more than a year ago by
\nbuying out a local parts and service firm, Boonphong, and
\nrebranding it, said Wachira, who spoke at an auto show last week
\nin Bangkok.<\/p>\n
Parts Point, which will handle parts for all makes of autos
\nand motorcycles, plans to open four branches here this year, he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The Parts Point network is already established in Taiwan and
\nAustralia and there are plans to expand it further this year to
\nat least two more countries, said David Kennedy, Parts Point's
\nchief operating officer.<\/p>\n
Possible new markets include South Korea, New Zealand, South
\nAfrica, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.<\/p>",
