Immigration officers in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, deported a 27-year-old Pakistani national identified as JR after he was found forcibly soliciting donations from mosque to mosque, reportedly demanding Rp 500,000 when offered Rp 100,000. He had entered Indonesia on a 60-day tourist visa, which he misused for fundraising that he said would pay for his children's schooling and support an educational institution in Pakistan. The case underlines enforcement of visa conditions under the 2011 Immigration Law and prompted authorities to urge residents to report suspicious foreign activity.

A foreign national from Pakistan, identified as JR (27), has been
deported from Bima city, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), after being found
forcibly soliciting donations from one mosque to another.

JR was apprehended by Bima immigration officers while collecting
donations at a mosque in Pane Village, Bima city. His activities came to
light after residents reported that his behaviour was causing
unease.

“JR was deported to his country of origin, Pakistan, on Wednesday
(7/10),” said the Head of the Class II Non-TPI Bima Immigration Office,
Joko Widodo, speaking to detikBali on Thursday (8/10/2026).

Joko said the Pakistani national had previously been reported by
residents for repeatedly seeking donations from mosque to mosque. The
conduct was considered disturbing to residents and mosque administrators
because JR demanded money forcefully.

“According to reports and witness statements from mosque
administrators, JR’s solicitation was quite coercive. When he was given
Rp 100,000, he refused to accept it and instead forcibly demanded Rp
500,000,” he said.

Following the report, Bima immigration officers conducted an
investigation. JR was then detained while fundraising at a mosque in
Pane Village.

“When he was about to be detained, JR attempted to flee. However, he
was caught and taken to the Bima immigration office for further
examination,” he explained.

Misuse of Visit Visa

Joko said the examination revealed that JR was in Indonesia on a
tourist visit visa valid for 60 days. However, the visa was misused to
solicit donations from mosque to mosque across the Bima city area as far
as Sumbawa.

JR admitted that the funds collected would be used to pay for his
children’s schooling in Pakistan and to support an educational
institution he runs in his home country.

“JR was found to have misused a tourist visa to solicit donations
from mosque to mosque. This is clearly a misuse of residence permit,” he
said.

Joko added that JR’s activities violated Article 122 letter a of Law
Number 6 of 2011 on Immigration. Following this violation, JR was
formally deported to his country of origin after undergoing detention
and immigration administrative procedures.

“Based on JR’s case, we urge the people of Bima and Dompu to report
immediately if they find suspicious or disturbing activities by foreign
nationals in their surroundings,” Joko concluded.
",
