Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto\u2019s state address at the\nAnnual Session of the People\u2019s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) at the\nNusantara Building, Central Jakarta, on Friday (14\/8), discussed the\ngovernment\u2019s performance report over the past 21 months.<\/p>\n
One of the government\u2019s most important achievements is in the food\nsector. Quoting the President\u2019s speech, Indonesia is said to have\nachieved self-sufficiency faster than the initial target.<\/p>\n
The government also stated that this success was achieved amid\ngrowing global concerns about a food crisis due to climate change.<\/p>\n
In the food sector, for example, President Prabowo said Indonesia has\nachieved self-sufficiency in eight food commodities within one year.<\/p>\n
The eight commodities are rice, corn, consumption sugar, chicken\nmeat, chicken eggs, shallots, large chillies, and bird\u2019s eye\nchillies.<\/p>\n
The President assessed that one of the factors accelerating\nproduction increases came from simplifying fertiliser governance.<\/p>\n
This policy was followed by increased fertiliser distribution\nthroughout this year. Pupuk Indonesia (a state-owned fertiliser\nproducer) has a production capacity of 14.8 million tonnes of fertiliser\nper year through five main producers.<\/p>\n
For 2026, the national subsidised fertiliser allocation is set at\n9.55 million tonnes, consisting of urea, NPK, organic fertiliser, and ZA\nfertiliser.<\/p>\n
Pupuk Indonesia also reported that the realisation of subsidised\nfertiliser redemption until the end of June 2026 increased by about 30\npercent compared to the same period last year.<\/p>\n
This distribution is supported by a network of 494 warehouses, more\nthan 1,000 distribution businesses, and a digital monitoring system that\ntracks fertiliser distribution from factories to handover points in real\ntime.<\/p>\n
Independence in the food sector is not only about meeting consumption\nneeds, but also part of safeguarding national sovereignty. When\nIndonesia is able to produce food independently, we not only reduce\ndependence on imports, but also strengthen national resilience as a\nwhole.<\/p>\n
Therefore, support for the agricultural sector is one of the main\nfocuses in implementing the Asta Cita. This opens wide space for\ncollaboration between the government and strategic actors, such as Pupuk\nIndonesia, to deliver real solutions in strengthening the national\nagricultural ecosystem.<\/p>\n
Indonesia as an agrarian country has great potential in agriculture.\nHowever, global and domestic challenges still need to be anticipated\nproperly.<\/p>\n
