Following GAMKI, a coalition of organisations under the North Sumatra\nCivil Society Alliance has reported Indonesia\u2019s 10th and 12th Vice\nPresident, Jusuf Kalla (JK), to the North Sumatra Regional Police\nregarding allegations of religious blasphemy.<\/p>\n
The report was received and registered under number\nLP\/B\/579\/IV\/SPKT\/POLDA SUMATERA UTARA on 14 April 2026.<\/p>\n
A representative of the alliance, who is also the Chairman of the\nSynod of the Indonesian Christ Warrior Church (GLKRI), Bishop Dikson\nPanjaitan, stated that the report was filed because they believe JK\ncommitted blasphemy against Christianity.<\/p>\n
This relates to JK\u2019s statements during a sermon at the Gadjah Mada\nUniversity (UGM) Mosque in March 2026, which discussed the Poso and\nAmbon conflicts involving Christians and Muslims.<\/p>\n
The Bishop stated that killing is not a teaching embraced by\nChristians. This is contrary to the teachings in the Bible.<\/p>\n
\u201cMr Jusuf Kalla\u2019s statement is truly blasphemous. Because it touches\non the substance of the holy scripture itself. Because Christian\nteachings are characterised by the doctrine of love and compassion. In\ncontrast, Christianity teaches to love one\u2019s enemies, love your\nenemies,\u201d he said to reporters on Wednesday (15\/4).<\/p>\n
Therefore, according to the Bishop, JK\u2019s statements deeply hurt the\nfeelings of Christians. Moreover, Christian adherents do not view\nMuslims as enemies.<\/p>\n
\u201cEspecially since he (JK) said Christians kill Islam, whereas Islam\nis not an enemy, honestly, generally Christians have never considered\nIslam as an enemy. Even if some might think so, it deeply hurts the\nfeelings of Christians worldwide, not just in Indonesia,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the Bishop emphasised that the report from the North\nSumatra Civil Society Alliance is not related to any particular party.\nIncluding organisations in Jakarta that previously reported JK.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no connection or our step supporting a particular\norganisation or related to that. What we report is purely our own\ninitiative, but we are grateful that our friends from the North Sumatra\ncivil society alliance support us. Thus, we can be united, agree,\ndiscuss this together, and reach the conclusion that I am the reporter,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Previously, GAMKI along with the Indonesian Christian Community\nCouncil (MUKI) Expert Board, Indonesian Pastors Association (API),\nPluralism Struggle Movement, DPP Si Pitung, and DPP Horas Bangso Batak\nreported JK to the Metro Jaya Regional Police.<\/p>\n
That report was received and registered under number\nLP\/B\/2546\/IV\/2026\/SPKT\/Polda Metro Jaya on 12 April 2026.<\/p>\n
In their statement, the DPP GAMKI quoted JK\u2019s controversial\nstatements. The statements referred to the conflicts in Poso and Ambon\nin the early 2000s. They took issue with the phrase \u2018martyr\u2019 used by JK\nregarding the conflicts that touched on religion, including in Poso and\nAmbon.<\/p>\n
The General Chairman of DPP GAMKI, Sahat Sinurat, stated that they\nalso strongly condemned JK\u2019s statements, which they deemed hurtful to\nChristians and causing unrest in society.<\/p>\n
JK and UGM Deny Blasphemy<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, JK\u2019s Spokesperson, Husain Abdullah, has also denied the\nallegations of blaspheming Christian teachings as filed by DPP GAMKI and\nseveral other organisations.<\/p>\n
Husain stated that the viral social media video post lacks its full\ncontext. The video in question contains JK\u2019s statements referring to\nboth sides in the Poso and Ambon conflicts as \u2018dying as martyrs\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter investigation, the accusation is the result of context\ncutting. We firmly deny that accusation,\u201d Husain said when confirmed via\nwritten message on Sunday (12\/4) night.<\/p>\n
Husain explained that JK\u2019s statement actually affirmed that no\nreligion in the world teaches its followers to kill each other.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis mistaken view of both parties was first corrected by Mr JK,\nstating that no religion permits killing each other. This was conveyed\nto the war commanders at that time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The YouTube channel of the UGM Campus Mosque also weighed in on JK\u2019s\nsermon titled \u2018Indonesia\u2019s Diplomacy Strategy in Mitigating Potential\nEscalation of Regional Multipolar War\u2019 held at the UGM Campus Mosque on\n5 March 2026.<\/p>\n
The channel admin conveyed their message through a pinned comment\nstarting from Monday (12\/4).<\/p>\n
\u201cDear congregation, we earnestly request that you watch the video in\nfull, not just the circulating clips. Often, incomplete excerpts can\ncause misunderstandings because the context of the discussion is not\nproperly conveyed,\u201d the admin wrote in the comment section.<\/p>\n
CNNIndonesia.com obtained permission from the Chairman of the UGM\nMosque Takmir, Muhammad Yusuf, to quote the content of that comment.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai encouraged\nresolving the JK polemic through dialogue, as an effort to maintain\nunity amid potential social tensions based on differing views.<\/p>\n
Pigai assessed that a non-litigious approach is more effective in\ndefusing conflicts than legal steps, especially on sensitive issues like\nreligion. He firmly rejected the parties reporting JK to the police.<\/p>\n
