        "content": "<p>Dozens of vehicles decorated with floral and fruit arrangements moved\nslowly through Berastagi, Karo, North Sumatra, in late July. On both\nsides of the main roads in the cool highlands, thousands of residents\nand tourists enjoyed the parade during the 2026 Karo Flower and Fruit\nFestival.<\/p>\n<p>Chrysanthemums, cabbage, carrots, and oranges adorned floats,\nincluding one featuring a paper buffalo sculpture at the front. Other\nvehicles featured various flowers arranged to resemble walking gardens.\nFestival participants were seen wearing traditional Karo and other\nregional attire, waving to spectators who captured the moments on their\nmobile phones.<\/p>\n<p>The festivities highlighted the fertility of the Karo Regency.\nAgricultural produce from local farmers was packaged into attractions\nand displayed in stalls to attract visitors and tourists.<\/p>\n<p>Karya Jaya Ginting, a local flower farmer, reported receiving more\nflower orders during the festival. \u201cIt increased by 40 per cent from\nusual days, or an additional 2,000 stems. The most in-demand are yellow\nand white chrysanthemums,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Karya, this surge in demand presents an opportunity for\nfarmers to introduce Karo\u2019s flowers to visitors from other regions. He\nexpressed hope that the festival would help his business expand.<\/p>\n<p>The Karo Flower and Fruit Festival also featured 82 stalls showcasing\na variety of products, ranging from handicrafts, fashion, and creative\nproducts to various local processed foods from micro, small, and medium\nenterprises (MSMEs). Junianti Surbakti, a food business owner, utilised\nthe festival to introduce her products to tourists, offering treats made\nfrom chocolate-coated strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries.<\/p>",
