Floods inundate eight districts in South Kalimantan province<\/p>\n

Flooding hit eight districts in the South Kalimantan regency of
\nTabalong, killing one person and inundating thousands of houses
\nin the area.<\/p>\n
The flooding affected the districts after torrential rain had
\npounded the area on the previous day, Antara news agency reported
\non Friday.<\/p>\n
Didiet Wahyuni, deputy head of the People's Welfare Office at
\nthe East Kalimantan provincial administration, said the eight
\ndistricts were Tanjung (the regency capital), Murung Pudak,
\nTanta, Muara Harus, Haruai, Kelua, Pugaan and Banua Lawas.<\/p>\n
Flooding in three districts -- Tanjung, Murung Pudak and Tanta
\n-- had already subsided by Friday, but was still affecting Kelua,
\nBanua Lawas and Pugaan districts.<\/p>\n
In Pugaan district, a local resident, Mila, a mother of two
\nchildren, died after she fell into a river and was swept away by
\na strong current on Friday.<\/p>\n
According to testimony from witnesses, the victim was sitting
\nin a boat on the river in Pugaan district, along with the three
\nmembers of her family. However, the boat capsized with them still
\naboard, which forced the four passengers to jump into the river.<\/p>\n
The 25-year-old Mila was dragged by the strong current that
\nled her to her death, while the three others were saved by
\nlocals.<\/p>\n
Her remains were found by locals several kilometers away from
\nthe scene of the incident.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, another official, Husni Indar, said that thousands
\nof local people from the eight districts had been badly affected
\nby the flooding. The government would immediately set up public
\nkitchens to help alleviate their misery.<\/p>\n
The floods also inundated paddy fields in the eight districts,
\nrendering them inaccessible.<\/p>",
