Floods delay train travel<\/p>\n
BANDUNG: An official with state-owned train operator PT KAI
\nsaid on Monday his office had canceled all train travel from
\nBandung and Jakarta to Central and East Java due to floods in
\nCilacap regency, following two days of torrential rain.<\/p>\n
PT KAI chief spokesman Gatot Wibowo said at least six trains
\n-- KA Lodaya, KA Kahuripan, KA Mutiara Selatan, KA Turangga, KA
\nSawunggalih Selatan and KA Serayu -- had suspended operations
\nbecause of flooding.<\/p>\n
The company's Bandung spokesman, Akhmad Sujadi, said PT KAI
\nhad paid at least Rp 100 million to reimburse passengers whose
\ntrains were canceled, and that the flooding had caused the
\ncompany losses of up to hundreds of million of rupiah.<\/p>\n
He added that the business and executive class trains Lodaya,
\nArgowilis and Mutiara Selatan would resume operations by taking
\nthe Bandung-Cikampek-Cirebon-Kroya-Yogyakarta-Surabaya route.<\/p>\n
Gatot said the area hardest hit by flooding was between the
\nCipari and Meluwung stations, where the water has reportedly been
\n60 centimeters high since Sunday.<\/p>\n
\"In several areas, the water has even damaged the tracks
\nbecause of erosion,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Officials at the Bandung and Kiaracondong stations must wait
\nfor the water to subside before they can begin what is expected
\nto be a week of repair work on train tracks.<\/p>\n
Gatot said flood waters caused the KA Dwipangga to derail
\nnear Patuguran station, forcing other trains to take a detour by
\npassing through the Prupuk, Tegal, Semarang and Solo stations. No
