The Candigara River in Kampung Kusamba Village, Dawan District,
Klungkung, Bali, has begun to be dredged. The dredging is being carried
out to address siltation. The shallow condition of the river often
causes water to overflow during the rainy season.

Head of the Klungkung Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), I
Putu Widiada, stated that the dredging is being conducted in stages to
prevent flooding that frequently inundates residential areas. “The
dredging is being done in stages. The first stage runs from west of the
Dawan Police Station heading north. The third day is focused on
transporting the dredged material to a collection point,” Widiada said
on Wednesday (24/6/2026).

The second stage of dredging continues in the area of the Panca
Mahottama Regional Drinking Water Company (Perumdam) pump heading south,
which is still part of the normalisation flow. Subsequently, the third
stage will be carried out east of the BRI Bank, followed by the
construction of a bypass channel at Segara Beach to smooth the river
flow to the sea.

Klungkung Regent I Made Satria directly inspected the Candigara River
dredging process. Satria emphasised that the river normalisation effort
is being carried out over 60 working days. “The river normalisation
target is 60 working days. Rivers indicated as causing flooding will be
completed. I hope that in the future the community can be at ease,” said
Satria.

After the Candigara River, the Klungkung BPBD will continue
normalisation at the Karangdadi River, the Kusamba Village alley flow,
and the river channel from Pikat—which has been flooding farmers’ rice
fields—towards Yeh Banges.

Satria confirmed that the dredging process is being conducted through
a series of coordination meetings with local residents and the National
Land Agency (BPN). This effort is undertaken to determine precise
dredging points so as not to encroach on residents’ land rights.

Following the normalisation, Satria plans to arrange the riverbanks
into a public space. “The hope is that MSMEs will grow, making it a
productive and income-generating place for the village, the region, and
the local community,” he explained.

Detailed planning regarding the riverbank arrangement will be
coordinated with the Bali-Penida River Basin Office (BWS). Satria
stressed that the Klungkung Regency Government will carry out the
arrangement according to their respective authorities once the design is
approved.
",
