Flexi BTS Tender Participants to be Announced Next Week

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) Tbk. will announce the telecommunication vendors that passed the selection for the Flexi base transceiver station (BTS) construction tender on Monday (16\/10).<\/p>\n
Arwin Rasyid, Telkom\u2019s Managing Director, said that there are three vendors had passed the tender selection, however, he refused to name the vendors.<\/p>\n
\u201cLater. On Monday next week we will announce the short list,\u201d he said after the signing of a joint marketing cooperation agreement between Telkom Regional Division II and Global Teleshop yesterday (11\/10).<\/p>\n
He explained that the tender process will be completed in this month so that in the beginning of next year the construction of 1,000 Flexi BTS in Greater Jakarta, Banten and West Java worth Rp1 trillion can be realized.<\/p>\n
Previously, Tanri Abeng, Telkom\u2019s Managing Commissioner, said that the tender proposal was already been carried out at the end of last month.<\/p>\n
Seven telecommunication vendors were invited by Telkom to join the tender.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re interested in taking part in the tender and handed in proposals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The seven vendors are Lucent, Alcatel, Motorola, Nortel, Samsung, Huawei and ZTE.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Awaluddin, Telkom\u2019s Vice President of Public and Marketing, confirmed Tanri\u2019s statement regarding the tender.<\/p>\n
However, he said he did not want to reveal the telecommunication vendors that had submitted the offer proposals.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe (tender) process is still ongoing, they will be announced later. For certain, they are well-known vendors providing CDMA-based telecommunication equipment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
New network construction is important for Telkom following the plan of Flexi\u2019s frequency migration in these areas from the 1,900 megahertz band to 800MHz.<\/p>\n
The frequency migration is due to the arrangement of 2.1 GHz spectrum by the government for the need of running third generation cellular communications (3G).<\/p>\n
Currently Telkom has about 564 BTS units for Flexi service in Greater Jakarta and West Java.<\/p>\n
