Fleming Nitro wins ice hockey tournament<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Fleming Nitro won the Sky Rink Jakarta Ice
\nHockey Tournament on Sunday with an emphatic 10-2 victory over
\nanother Jakarta team, Good Fellas, at Taman Anggrek Mall Ice Rink
\nin West Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Robin scored five goals as the Nitros dominated the match from
\nthe beginning, preventing the frustrated Fellas from getting into
\nthe flow of the game.<\/p>\n
Nitro players said they did very little in the way of
\npreparing for the six-team tournament<\/p>\n
\"We never thought about winning. The organizers told us that
\nit was just for fun, so we made no special preparations,\" captain
\nJerry said. \"We relied solely on teamwork since we've been
\nplaying together as team for quite a while.\"<\/p>\n
Felix, named the tournament MVP by organizers, said that prior
\nto the game the Nitros were a little wary of the Fellas, who have
\ntwo expatriates on their team.<\/p>\n
\"The two expat players posed a real threat to us. But we
\nplayed with good teamwork. I believe that good teamwork was the
\nkey to our victory,\" he said.<\/p>\n
One of the referees, Canadian Arnold Ames, also vouched that
\nteamwork carried the day for the Nitros.<\/p>\n
\"Both teams had similar skills, but the Nitros played as a
\nteam. Not to say anything about their good passing skills,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\"Each team member knew where his position was,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Ames noted the 1,248-square-meter rink was only three-fourths
\nthe size of rinks used to stage professional ice hockey games.<\/p>\n
\"There's no problem at all with the size. It allows players to
\neasily take control and handle the rink. Playing in the standard
\nrink requires more speed and power,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Another referee, Robert Esguerra, who is the head instructor
\nat the Sky Rink, said the organizers planned to invite more teams
\nto next year's tournament.<\/p>\n
\"We may also send a team to other tournaments. Surabaya, for
\nexample, holds a tournament every July, while Hong Kong holds one
\nin October,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Pandawa secured third place on Saturday night with a 3-2
\ndefeat of Jakarta's Ice Slap. Also on Saturday, Franky, Andy and
\nAirel of the Good Fellas won the relay race event.<\/p>\n
Surabaya's Sixel grabbed two titles. Samuel Lewi won the
\ngoalie event, and Iwan Lembono, Sammy and Bobby Gunars grabbed
\nthe puck handling and shooting event.<\/p>\n
The tournament's top scorer was Pandawa's Toni, who netted
