        "content": "<p>Tapsel, North Sumatra (ANTARA) \u2014 A number of flash flood survivors in\nSouth Tapanuli, North Sumatra, had their first pre-dawn meal (sahur) of\nthe holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah in emergency tents alongside\ntheir families.<\/p>\n<p>An ANTARA correspondent reported in the early hours of Thursday that\nseveral flash flood survivors were seen arriving at the communal kitchen\nat the Disaster Command Post in Batu Hula Village, Batang Toru District,\nSouth Tapanuli.<\/p>\n<p>They brought food containers to collect rice and side dishes provided\nby the communal kitchen at the evacuation site.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to using the communal kitchen, flash flood survivors from\nHuta Godang and Garoga villages in Batang Toru District also cooked in\ntheir respective tents.<\/p>\n<p>One flash flood survivor, Marlan Hutauruk, said that this sahur was\nvery different from pre-dawn meals before the disaster struck.<\/p>\n<p>He said the flash floods that occurred at the end of November 2025\nhad levelled his home, forcing him to observe Ramadan at the evacuation\nsite.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPreviously it was certainly more comfortable because we were in our\nown home. Now our circumstances are like this,\u201d he said whilst having\nsahur with his wife and other residents at the evacuation post.<\/p>\n<p>A similar sentiment was expressed by Khoiruddin Simatupang, another\nflash flood survivor currently occupying an emergency tent in Batu Hula\nVillage, who must observe Ramadan at the displacement site.<\/p>\n<p>He admitted to missing the atmosphere of Ramadan and having sahur at\nhome, as everything in the emergency tents must be taken as it\ncomes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is our first day of Ramadan in the evacuation camp. We have\nbeen here for nearly three months since the disaster,\u201d he said.<\/p>",
