        "content": "<p>Five tremors shake Philippines<\/p>\n<p>TACLOBAN, Philippines (Reuter): Five successive earthquakes,<br>\nthe strongest measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale, shook the<br>\ncentral Philippines yesterday, causing slight injuries and some<br>\ndamage, government officials said.<\/p>\n<p>The tremors damaged a major bridge and caused the collapse of<br>\na concrete wall at a school gymnasium in Borongan, Eastern Samar<br>\nprovince, near the quakes' epicenter, they said.<\/p>\n<p>A five-year-old boy was taken to hospital in Tacloban city on<br>\nneighboring Leyte Island after he was hit by a cabinet which fell<br>\nduring the quake.<\/p>\n<p>Raymundo Punongbayan, chief of the government's volcanology<br>\ninstitute said the tremors hit the Philippine trench off Eastern<br>\nSamar, 590 kilometers southeast of Manila.<\/p>\n<p>\"The strongest magnitude we recorded was 6.9. Fortunately, it<br>\nwas deep. It was 82 kilometers deep so we are not expecting a<br>\ntsunami (tidal wave) hit,\" he said.<\/p>",
