Five photographers show work of art<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Five photographers will display their black-and-
\nwhite works in a one-month long exhibition at the Mandarin
\nOriental hotel here beginning on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The photographers, Darwis Triadi, Artli Ali, Nico
\nDharmajungen, Suherry Arno and Warren Kiong, will exhibit their
\n69 photographs in a display called "The Work of Art".<\/p>\n
"We hope to introduce fine art photography among Indonesians
\nto increase appreciation toward photography," said Darwis, one of
\nIndonesia's senior fashion photographers, at a media conference
\nat the hotel on Monday.<\/p>\n
"Until now, so many people (here) do not view photography as
\nan art. The arts for them are paintings and sculptures," he
\nadded.<\/p>\n
The theme of the pictures to be displayed will have nothing in
\ncommon. Each photographer will try to show works, which are
\ndefinitely different with their traditional objects, techniques
\nand themes.<\/p>\n
Darwis, for example, promised to display works that have
\nnothing to do with models, which was his trademark for years.<\/p>\n
"I'll show a number of works that has nothing to do with my
\nstrengths," he said.<\/p>\n
Warren, who also runs a shop selling photography accessories,
\nsaid his works would be about scores of objects he snapped
\npictures of while touring various places.<\/p>\n
Darwis said the displayed photographs were for sale with
\nprices ranging from Rp 1.5 million (US$215) to Rp 5 million each.<\/p>\n
The proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to the
\nUlurkan Tanganmu (Lend a Hand) Foundation, which dedicates itself
\nto boosting the standard of health for poor children, and to
\nfinance future fine art picture exhibitions. (04\/bsr)<\/p>",
