        "content": "<p>Five names considered for ambassadorial post<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Speculation about who is going to become<br>\nIndonesia's ambassador to Australia surfaced again after<br>\nMinister\/State Secretary Moerdiono disclosed on Wednesday that<br>\nfive names are now being considered for the post.<\/p>\n<p>Moerdiono declined to give the five names, saying that they<br>\ninclude civilian and military figures and that a decision would<br>\nbe made before the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>One of the often-mentioned names is Theo Sambuaga, a Golkar<br>\nmember of the House of Representatives, while the name of the<br>\nchief editor of the Republika daily newspaper, Parni Hadi, has<br>\nalso come up.<\/p>\n<p>Other names suggested include former East Nusa Tenggara<br>\ngovernor Ben Mboi and Juwono Sudarsono, the deputy governor of<br>\nthe National Resilience Institute. One or two senior diplomats at<br>\nthe Ministry of Foreign Affairs have also been suggested for the<br>\nposition.<\/p>\n<p>The post in Canberra has been vacant since ambassador Sabam<br>\nSiagian ended his term in July.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia withdrew its candidate, Lt. Gen. H.B.L. Mantiri, at<br>\nthe last minute because of a controversy in Australia concerning<br>\nremarks he purportedly made to the press about an incident in<br>\nEast Timor in 1991.<\/p>\n<p>During their meeting in Bali in September, President Soeharto<br>\nand Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating agreed that the post<br>\nshould be filled in the not too distant future.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, H.B.L. Mantiri is now being considered for the<br>\nambassadorial post in Singapore, according to Tiras magazine.<\/p>\n<p>Mantiri is one of several senior Army officers who will<br>\nofficially be retired at a major sending off ceremony at the<br>\nMilitary Academy in Magelang, Central Java, on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The other retiring officers include former Army chief of staff<br>\nGen. Wismoyo Arismunandar, former chief of the military<br>\nintelligence agency Lt. Gen. Arie Sudewo, Maj. Gen. Bantu<br>\nHardjijo, Maj. Gen. Aspar Aswin, Maj. Gen. Rusmadi Sidik and<br>\nMaj. Gen.
