Five men burned alive<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Five suspected holdup men were mobbed and burned
\nto death by an angry crowd after being caught demanding money
\nfrom passengers of a mikrolet public minivan in East Jakarta on
\nSaturday.<\/p>\n
The five gang members, already listed on the local police's
\nmost wanted list, met their tragic deaths at the Jl. TB
\nSimatupang and Jl. Raya Bogor intersection at 2:15 p.m., shortly
\nafter their victims daringly screamed for help.<\/p>\n
By evening, police had released the identity only one of the
\nfive men: Nurdin, 33, of Cilandak, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Ciracas Police chief Capt. Titik Valentina said the five
\nbodies would be taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital for
\npostmortem examinations.<\/p>\n
\"We're still completing the administrative procedures,\" the
\npolicewoman said.<\/p>\n
According to witnesses, the five men were on board an M06
\nmikrolet plying the Kampung Melayu-Gandaria route and had
\nthreatened the passengers, who then alerted passersby in the
\narea.<\/p>\n
But East Jakarta Police detective Second Lt. Ferdy Sambo
\nquoted local residents as saying that the five had just committed
\na crime in the area and got away by taking a mikrolet.<\/p>\n
Their victim, who was in the area, yelled \"thief ...
\nthief ...\" and pointed his finger at the five men.<\/p>\n
\"The people then blocked off the mikrolet and forced them to
\nget out and then mobbed them,\" Ferdy said.<\/p>\n
The angry locals recognized the five as robbers in the area.<\/p>\n
Witnesses said the mob first beat the five before somebody
\npoured gasoline over them and set them on fire.<\/p>\n
All five died on the spot. The police arrived a few minutes
