Five Brimob officers killed in Manokwari<\/p>\n
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya (JP): Five on-duty officers of the
\nIndonesian Police Mobile Brigade were killed in a pre-dawn attack
\nby an unidentified group of people in the village of Wondiwoi,
\nlocated in the Wasiur district of Manokwari regency, on
\nWednesday.<\/p>\n
Irian Jaya Police chief Insp. Gen. Made Mangku Pastika
\nconfirmed the accident, condemning the inhumane attack.<\/p>\n
"It was an uncivilized action, and we vow to pursue the
\nattackers," Pastika said, adding that the armed attackers also
\nseized firearms from the officers.<\/p>\n
The attack took place at 2:30 a.m. local time.<\/p>\n
Adj. Comr. Zulkifli AR, head of the provincial police
\ninformation office, said that the five slain officers were First
\nBrig. Ibrahim, First Brig. L. Pakpahan, First Brig. Baspur,
\nSecond Brig. Firmansyah H, and Second Brig. Taufik Hidayat. "All
\ndied from gunshot wounds."<\/p>\n
"A local was also shot dead in the attack, but he has yet to
\nbe identified," said Zulkifli.<\/p>\n
Both Pastika and Zulkifli said they had yet to identify the
\nguns used by the assailants, whom they identified as members of a
\nseparatist group.<\/p>\n
Wondiwoi village is in a coastal area. It takes a day and a
\nnight to reach it by sea from Jayapura.<\/p>\n
Zulkifli said that the police had increased the deployment of
\npersonnel in Manokwari, in order to pursue the attackers.
