        "content": "<p>International rating agency Fitch Ratings views positively the sole\nnomination of Destry Damayanti as candidate for governor of Bank\nIndonesia (BI), replacing Perry Warjiyo who resigned effective 25 July\n2026.<\/p>\n<p>The nomination of the BI Senior Deputy Governor as the only\ngubernatorial candidate, together with internal central bank officials\nto fill the vacant senior deputy governor and deputy governor seats, is\nseen as reinforcing expectations of policy continuity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe nomination has helped reduce pressure on the rupiah, but is\nunlikely to eliminate investor caution,\u201d according to a Fitch Ratings\nreport, Wednesday (26\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Even so, Fitch highlighted whether Destry will still realise the\nsignals of continuity going forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstitutional continuity at Bank Indonesia should support market\nsentiment, although confidence may remain fragile,\u201d Fitch said.<\/p>\n<p>As is known, the rupiah exchange rate opened stronger against the\nUnited States (US) dollar in trading on Wednesday (26\/8\/2026), after the\nmarket was closed for the Prophet Muhammad\u2019s Birthday holiday on\nTuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to Refinitiv data, the rupiah opened positive or\nappreciated by 0.20% to Rp17,670\/US$.<\/p>\n<p>The strengthening reversed the pressure seen in Monday\u2019s trading\n(24\/8\/2026), when the Garuda currency closed down 0.11% at\nRp17,705\/US$.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the US dollar index (DXY), which measures the greenback\u2019s\nstrength against six major world currencies, was observed at 09.00 WIB\nto have weakened slightly by 0.01% to 98.905. The DXY extended its 0.09%\ndecline from the previous session.<\/p>",
