        "content": "<p>Fishermen divided on eviction<\/p>\n<p>Evi Mariani, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>Fishermen living on Muara Angke riverbanks, North Jakarta, have<br>\nresponded differently to a final order to clear the area issued<br>\nby the city administration.<\/p>\n<p>As of Sunday afternoon, officials of Pluit subdistrict had<br>\nrecorded that 407 families, or about half the residents, were<br>\nwilling to leave and had each received Rp 500,000 (about US$60)<br>\nin compensation.<\/p>\n<p>However, the families concerned do not know where to go after<br>\nthe eviction, which was due to take place on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\"I don't know where to go after I demolish my own house,\" said<br>\nSumarjono, who had received compensation money. \"I will assess<br>\nthe situation tomorrow, then decide.\"<\/p>\n<p>Sumarjono said that while awaiting eviction he would put his<br>\nfamily and belongings on board his fishing boat, which was<br>\nberthed by the sea. Usually, he said, the fishermen tied the<br>\nboats in front of their platform houses on a shallow part of the<br>\nriver.<\/p>\n<p>Raminah is from one of hundreds of families grouped in the<br>\nTraditional Fishermens Union (SNT) who have insisted on staying<br>\nbecause \"there is no other place for us to live.\"<\/p>\n<p>\"We will only leave if the administration gives us an<br>\nalternative place to live,\" she told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n<p>Intending to restore the site to an open, green area, the<br>\nadministration has ordered the residents to demolish their homes<br>\nand leave the banks by Monday morning.<\/p>",
