        "content": "<p>Kendari (ANTARA) - Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti\nWahyu Trenggono has made the 81st anniversary of the Republic of\nIndonesia a momentum to safeguard the security, sovereignty and\nsustainability of national marine resources as a key pillar of food\nsecurity and public welfare.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in Konawe on Monday, Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said\nthat stewardship of the marine sector is not merely about protecting\nterritorial boundaries, but about protecting the nation\u2019s source of life\nthrough the strengthening of six national priority work programmes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProtecting the sea is not just about protecting territory, but also\nabout protecting the source of life and the future of the nation. We\nwant fish to be not only a source of food for the nation\u2019s protein\nself-sufficiency, but also a better source of livelihood for fishermen,\nfish farmers and coastal communities,\u201d said Sakti Wahyu while leading\nthe Independence Day ceremony at the Merah Putih Fishermen\u2019s Village in\nSorue Jaya Village, Soropia District, Konawe Regency, Southeast\nSulawesi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese six priority programmes have one goal, namely to strengthen\nfood production, create jobs, increase added value and improve people\u2019s\nwelfare,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sakti Wahyu said that his ministry has recorded tangible results from\nthe Merah Putih Fishermen\u2019s Village in Papua, where almost 90 percent of\nthe population depends on fisheries, yet fishermen\u2019s incomes remain\nbelow the provincial minimum wage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn operational trials, the integrated area successfully produced and\nshipped up to 8 tonnes of export-quality fish to other cities,\u201d he\nnoted.<\/p>\n<p>To safeguard the sustainability of marine resources and the priority\nprogrammes, the ministry has deployed a fleet of patrol vessels,\nincluding Patrol Vessel Orca 01, Orca 04, Orca 05, Orca 06, Patrol\nVessel Paus 01, Patrol Vessel Hiu Macan Tutul 01, as well as Hiu 13, Hiu\n14 and Hiu 15.<\/p>\n<p>On the occasion, the minister also expressed deep condolences over\nthe earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara on Saturday (15\/8).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the first day of the disaster, the ministry has taken swift\naction by forming a special team, establishing a disaster response post,\ncoordinating with relevant agencies, and collecting donations and\nlogistical assistance,\u201d said Sakti Wahyu.<\/p>\n<p>He called on all elements of society and ministry staff to continue\nworking together to channel assistance throughout the emergency response\nperiod until post-disaster recovery in East Nusa Tenggara is\ncompleted.<\/p>",
