First Pacific eyes Indofood<\/p>\n
HONG KONG (Reuters): First Pacific Co. Ltd said yesterday it
\nwas studying investments in dozens of companies, including
\nIndonesian noodle company PT Indofood Sukses Makmur controlled by
\nthe Salim family.<\/p>\n
\"Indofood is among the dozens of companies that have appeared
\nfleetingly on the periphery of our radar screen,\" said group vice
\npresident corporate communications Robert Sherbin.<\/p>\n
\"Any suggestion that we are going forward with this is wildly
\npremature and based on pure surmise. We have every intention of
\nsitting on our cash until the right opportunity comes about,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The Salim family is the major shareholder of First Pacific.<\/p>\n
First Pacific said earlier this month it intended to acquire
\nmarketing and distribution business-related companies in the
\nPhilippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Hong Kong\/China.<\/p>\n
The company said it was targeting companies with substantial
\nmarket share, a strong brand name and strong ability to produce
\npositive cash flow relatively soon.<\/p>\n
\"Indofood is among many, many of the companies that we have
\nlooked at, but I will not give it any special priority,\" Sherbin
\nsaid.<\/p>",
