First Mickey & Friends outlets open in Jakarta<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The world's first two Mickey & Friends outlets
\nopened in Sogo department stores in Jakarta over the weekend.<\/p>\n
The first one was opened in Sogo in Plaza Indonesia, Central
\nJakarta, Saturday and the second in Sogo in Kelapa Gading Mall,
\nNorth Jakarta, yesterday.<\/p>\n
Mickey & Friends is the latest retail concept from the Walt
\nDisney Company. In its operation in Indonesia, the company has
\nappointed private company PT Bintang Tunggal Gemilang, a
\nsubsidiary of Gajah Tunggal Group, as sole licensee of Mickey &
\nFriends in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The outlets offer about 800 different items of Disney products
\nin the form of clothes, stationery, toys, accessories and
\nsouvenirs.<\/p>\n
\"The goods offered at the outlets are all authentic Disney
\nproducts made both domestically and internationally,\" said
\nSutrisno, managing director of Bintang Tunggal, which is also the
\nfirst license holder of Mickey & Friends in the world.<\/p>\n
Besides selling Disney dolls, such as Winnie The Pooh, 101
\nDalmatians and Hercules, Mickey & Friends outlets will bring the
\n\"real\" Disney world to customers through visual merchandising,
\ncomic-strip theme store design and other entertainment such as
\nDisney films.<\/p>\n
\"We chose to open the first chain here in Indonesia due to its
\nrapid economic growth and its potential market,\" the president of
\nWalt Disney Company for Asia, John Feenie, said after opening the
\nSogo Central Jakarta outlet.<\/p>\n
Jacques Levy, vice president and general manager of Mickey &
\nFriends International, said that Mickey & Friends would become a
\nnew brand identity of Disney.<\/p>\n
\"However, Mickey & Friends will still follow the Disney
\ndiscipline of creating an exciting and vivid retail environment.
\nIt will also adopt the Disney style of guest service program,\"
\nsaid Levy.<\/p>\n
Also present at the weekend openings were three famous
\nDisney's characters: Mickey Mouse, Minnie and Donald Duck who
\ncame directly from the United States.<\/p>\n
After the opening, parents took their children to shake hands
\nand have their pictures taken with the characters.<\/p>\n
A Mickey & Friends store will also be opened by the end of
\nthis year in Lippo Supermal, Karawaci in Tangerang. Another store
\nwill be opened in Mal Taman Anggrek, West Jakarta, next year.<\/p>\n
\"After operating for a year, we plan to open another store in
\nTunjungan Plaza in the East Java capital of Surabaya,\" said Joni
\nSutanto, one of Bintang Tunggal's directors.<\/p>\n
He said the opening of more stores in other cities was also
\nplanned, such as in Bandung in West Java and Medan in North
\nSumatra.<\/p>\n
After Indonesia, Mickey & Friends chain stores will be opened
\nin Poland. The Disney Store, Mickey & Friends' parent company,
\nhas opened more than 650 stores in 14 countries since its
