First Lady opens bazaars<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): First Lady Tien Soeharto officially opened
\nyesterday two-day bazaars, held simultaneously throughout
\nIndonesia's provinces, mayoralties, regencies and districts, as
\npart of festivities commemorating Indonesia's golden anniversary.<\/p>\n
The opening ceremony of the bazaars, locally called Pasar
\nRakyat (folk bazaars), was held in the parking lot of the state-
\nowned Sarinah department store on Jl. M.H. Thamrin, Central
\nJakarta.<\/p>\n
\"These nation-wide bazaars, held for the 195 million people of
\nIndonesia, is supposed to promote the businesses of cooperatives
\nand small enterprises,\" said the First Lady.<\/p>\n
At the Jakarta bazaar, organized by the Indonesian Chamber of
\nCommerce and Industry, members of various business associations,
\nincluding the Indonesian Cooperatives Council, the Indonesian
\nRetailers Association, the Association of Indonesian Retailers
\nand Store Managers and the Association of Indonesian Distributors
\nand Suppliers, are taking part, featuring their products at 50
\nstands.<\/p>\n
They are offering high-quality food stuffs, beverages,
\nvegetables, garments and household appliances at low prices, with
\ndiscounts of up to 50 percent.<\/p>\n
The Sarinah department store itself, which is also
\ncommemorating its own 33rd anniversary, is offering discounts of
\nup to 50 percent and door prizes consisting of Toyota motor
\nvehicles and electronic goods until Sept. 30.<\/p>\n
In the country's other provinces, the two-day bazaars, opened
\nby the wives of governors on behalf of Mrs. Tien, are organized
\nby the local chapters of the chamber.<\/p>\n
Antara reported that bazaars in Ujungpandang, South Sulawesi,
\nin Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, in Denpasar, Bali, and
\nPalangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, attracted thousands of visitors
