        "content": "<p>First Lady opens bazaars<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): First Lady Tien Soeharto officially opened<br>\nyesterday two-day bazaars, held simultaneously throughout<br>\nIndonesia's provinces, mayoralties, regencies and districts, as<br>\npart of festivities commemorating Indonesia's golden anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>The opening ceremony of the bazaars, locally called Pasar<br>\nRakyat (folk bazaars), was held in the parking lot of the state-<br>\nowned Sarinah department store on Jl. M.H. Thamrin, Central<br>\nJakarta.<\/p>\n<p>\"These nation-wide bazaars, held for the 195 million people of<br>\nIndonesia, is supposed to promote the businesses of cooperatives<br>\nand small enterprises,\" said the First Lady.<\/p>\n<p>At the Jakarta bazaar, organized by the Indonesian Chamber of<br>\nCommerce and Industry, members of various business associations,<br>\nincluding the Indonesian Cooperatives Council, the Indonesian<br>\nRetailers Association, the Association of Indonesian Retailers<br>\nand Store Managers and the Association of Indonesian Distributors<br>\nand Suppliers, are taking part, featuring their products at 50<br>\nstands.<\/p>\n<p>They are offering high-quality food stuffs, beverages,<br>\nvegetables, garments and household appliances at low prices, with<br>\ndiscounts of up to 50 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The Sarinah department store itself, which is also<br>\ncommemorating its own 33rd anniversary, is offering discounts of<br>\nup to 50 percent and door prizes consisting of Toyota motor<br>\nvehicles and electronic goods until Sept. 30.<\/p>\n<p>In the country's other provinces, the two-day bazaars, opened<br>\nby the wives of governors on behalf of Mrs. Tien, are organized<br>\nby the local chapters of the chamber.<\/p>\n<p>Antara reported that bazaars in Ujungpandang, South Sulawesi,<br>\nin Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, in Denpasar, Bali, and<br>\nPalangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, attracted thousands of visitors<br>\nyesterday.
