        "content": "<p>First heart transplant in KL<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AP): Malaysia&apos;s first heart transplant was<br>\nperformed successfully on a 51-year-old male, the National Heart<br>\nInstitute of Malaysia announced yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The four-hour operation, carried out by a team of 17<br>\nspecialists, on Thursday culminated two years of preparation<br>\nincluding experimental transplants on 11 sheep, the official news<br>\nagency Bernama reported.<\/p>\n<p>Following Thursday&apos;s operation, the recipient, who had been on<br>\nthe country&apos;s heart transplant waiting list for seven months<br>\ndiagnosed with &quot;end stage heart failure,&quot; was awake and breathing<br>\non his own.<\/p>\n<p>The patient, whose name was not released, will remain in<br>\nintensive care for several days, said Yahya Awang, the chief<br>\nsurgeon of the Heart Institute.<\/p>",
