Firms get awards for productivity<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The government has selected 11 companies for the
\ninaugural Paramakarya awards for companies with best performances
\nin terms of increasing their overall productivity.<\/p>\n
The awards will be conferred by President Soeharto in a
\nceremony at the State Palace in Jakarta next Tuesday, to coincide
\nwith the presentation of awards to companies with the best record
\nin preventing industrial accidents.<\/p>\n
The winners of the Paramakarya award are selected from the
\ncountry's small and medium-scale companies, Andy Sangaji said.
\nAndy is director general for training at the Ministry of Manpower
\nwhich oversees the National Productivity Council.<\/p>\n
Andy declined to give the names of the 11 companies selected
\nfor the awards but stressed that they were picked from 280
\nnominations that were sent in to the council.<\/p>\n
The award is an incentive, honoring companies in the country
\nwhich strive to improve their productivity, from the aspects of
\ntheir workers, finances, technological application, organization
\nand marketing, he said.<\/p>\n
Frans Mardihartanto of the Bandung Institute of Technology, a
\nmember of the jury team which selected the 11 winners, said the
\njury employed strict criteria in reaching their selections.<\/p>\n
Factors considered include their compliance with tax rules,
\nwage regulations and their participation in the workers security
\nprogram, he said.<\/p>\n
A 12th company, in the business of high technology industry,
\nselected for the award, turned it down for no apparent reason,
\nFrans said.<\/p>\n
The 11 winners are from North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Jakarta,
\nEast Java, West and East Kalimantan. Their names will be
\nannounced at the time the awards are presented.(rms)<\/p>",
