        "content": "<p>Firm risks contempt with dam work<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (Reuter): The builder of Malaysia's US$5.5<br>\nbillion Bakun hydroelectric dam, Ekran Bhd, risks being held in<br>\ncontempt of court if it does not stop work on the project, a<br>\nlawyer who argued the case said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The Malaysian High Court on Wednesday ordered work halted on<br>\nthe massive dam, to be built in a Borneo rainforest in Sarawak<br>\nstate, because of an improper Environmental Impact Assessment.<\/p>\n<p>\"We'll seek contempt proceedings against Ekran if it goes<br>\nahead with the dam's construction,\" said Gurdial Singh Nijar, one<br>\nof the lawyers representing three tribal residents who brought<br>\nthe suit against Ekran and the government.<\/p>\n<p>\"All contracts signed on the dam could also be deemed illegal<br>\nbecause they involve the furtherance of an activity regarded<br>\nwrong in law,\" Nijar told a news conference.<\/p>",
