        "content": "<p>Firm action planned against soil trucks drivers<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja has ordered his<br>\nsubordinates to take firm action against drivers of trucks<br>\ntransporting soil for development projects.<\/p>\n<p>\"We have to launch an integrated operation to stop trucks from<br>\nmaking city streets dirty,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The governor said that many trucks, which transport soil from<br>\nconstruction projects, have polluted city streets and made the<br>\nstreets dirty, especially during the rainy season.<\/p>\n<p>Surjadi said the dirty streets bother motorists because they<br>\ncannot drive comfortably, cause traffic jams and affect the<br>\nbeauty of the city.<\/p>\n<p>The governor instructed his subordinates to insist the truck<br>\ndrivers abide by the existing regulations on transportation<br>\nlinked to the construction of development projects.<\/p>\n<p>\"The drivers, for example, are asked to cover their containers<br>\nto avoid the soil from falling onto the streets and also to wash<br>\ntheir tires before passing through city streets,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the City Council urged city administration to<br>\nintensively supervise the construction of city-owned projects<br>\nwhose developers neglect the beauty of their surroundings.<\/p>\n<p>The lack of supervision has caused many projects to be poorly<br>\nmaintained. Their thoughtless activities cause the streets around<br>\nprojects to look dirty, ruining the beauty of the city as well,<br>\nthey said.<\/p>\n<p>\"Many developers, for example, do not pay much attention to<br>\nthe repair of excavation for the installation of telephone and<br>\nelectricity cables along the streets near the project,\" Romulus<br>\nSihombing, a councillor from the Indonesian Democratic Party<br>\nfaction, said.<\/p>\n<p>Lukman Mokoginta, another councillor from the same faction,<br>\nsaid that project contractors should respect public interest by<br>\nfinishing projects properly.<\/p>\n<p>Both councillors said that city administration should take<br>\nfirm action against project contractors when their construction<br>\nis found out to have caused inconvenience to the public.<\/p>\n<p>\"The city administration should supervise developers and<br>\nrequire them to be responsible if their projects are not finished<br>\nproperly,\" Romulus said.
