        "content": "<p>Fires burn in protected forests<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Spot fires have been detected in several protected<br>\nforests in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Jambi,<br>\nBengkulu, Lampung, Central Kalimantan and East Kalimantan, an<br>\nofficial said here on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Soedarmadi, an assistant to the coordinating minister for<br>\npeople's welfare, said the fires were detected by the State<br>\nMinistry of the Environment early this month.<\/p>\n<p>The fires are believed to be burning in coal deposits in the<br>\nforests, Antara reported.<\/p>\n<p>The fires were contained by the heavy rains over the past few<br>\nweeks. However, June is usually the start of the dry season, so<br>\npreventive measures have to be taken, Soedarmadi said after a<br>\ncoordination meeting on public welfare.<\/p>\n<p>Several ministers attended the meeting, which was presided<br>\nover by Coordinating Minister of People's Welfare and Poverty<br>\nEradication Haryono Suyono.<\/p>\n<p>Soedarmadi said that in a bid to prevent the fires from<br>\ngrowing, the government would cooperate with non-governmental<br>\norganizations and plantation and logging companies.<\/p>",
