        "content": "<p>Fired journalists not to file lawsuit<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The deputy chairman of Republika daily&apos;s union,<br>\nMahladi, said on Friday 15 recently fired journalists would not<br>\nfile a lawsuit against the management over their dismissal.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was taken after the 15 journalists -- 13 of whom<br>\nwere members of the union -- negotiated compensation packages<br>\nwith the management.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Manpower recently issued a decree entitling<br>\nlaid off journalists to compensation equaling five times their<br>\nmonthly salary.<\/p>\n<p>Mahladi said the dismissals followed a dispute between the<br>\nunion and the management which centered on the ministerial decree<br>\non compensation.<\/p>\n<p>He said the management had planned to reduce the compensation<br>\nfor fired employees, instead increasing the pension for retired<br>\nemployees.<\/p>\n<p>The union opposed the plan, leading to the dismissals, he<br>\nsaid. -- Antara<\/p>",
