Firecrackers go off at police station<\/p>\n
PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Six police officers, three men and
\ntwo children were injured when thousands of confiscated
\nfirecrackers exploded at Banjarnegara Police Station on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred when police were interrogating Suhardi,
\nthe owner of the firecrackers.<\/p>\n
It is believed the firecrackers ignited due to the heat when
\nthey were placed in buckets on a badminton court in the station
\ncompound.<\/p>\n
Antara reported that Suhardi, 56, and two witnesses in the
\ncase were among those injured.<\/p>\n
Uli, 6, and Sasa, 5, the children of one of the police
\nofficers, were also hurt as the firecrackers flew in different
\ndirections.<\/p>\n
The Banjarnegara Police chief, Lt. Col. Imam Basuki, was at
\nthe station when the explosion occurred but was unhurt.<\/p>\n
Police confiscated six boxes of firecrackers, each consisting
\nof tens of thousands of sticks, early Saturday morning from
\nSuhardi's house.<\/p>\n
According to police, Suhardi purchased the firecrackers in the
\ntown of Tegal and planned to sell them during the coming Islamic
\nfasting month of Ramadhan when firecrackers are a popular
