        "content": "<p>Firecrackers (1)<\/p>\n<p>The letter from Mrs. Yattie in the Feb. 14, 1995 issue of your<br>\nnewspaper concerning the lighting of firecrackers during the<br>\nRamadhan month is finding my full sympathy. It is really very<br>\ndifficult to understand that there are no restrictions against<br>\nthe use of firecrackers in Indonesia although Ramadhan, as far as<br>\nI see it, is considered to be a time of thoughtfulness and peace.<\/p>\n<p>In my case I have talked many times to the RT (neighborhood<br>\nleader) in charge and also to the police in order to cut down the<br>\nuse of firecrackers, at least during the night, but so far<br>\nwithout any success. The lighting of firecrackers in the vicinity<br>\nof my house is going ahead at all times of the day and night,<br>\nespecially between midnight and sunrise. I really doubt that<br>\npeople following the rituals of Ramadhan enjoy this \"nuisance\",<br>\nas Mrs. Yattie expressed herself!<\/p>\n<p>I can understand the children's excitement during the Ramadhan<br>\nmonth but suggest that firecrackers only be allowed at the end of<br>\nthe fasting month, to celebrate this special event. Such an<br>\narrangement, in my opinion, would better suit the meaning of this<br>\nevent and I am sure would find the acceptance of all people,<br>\nespecially as fasting rituals could be followed with even more<br>\nconcentration and everybody could enjoy a more peaceful sleep!<\/p>\n<p>MANFRED WEBER<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta<\/p>",
