Fire razes Simpong market<\/p>\n
PALU, Central Sulawesi: A fire swept through the Simpong
\ntraditional market in Luwuk, the capital of Banggai regency,
\nCentral Sulawesi, on Saturday morning, destroying all of the
\nstalls.<\/p>\n
No casualties were reported but material losses are expected
\nto reach billions of rupiah.<\/p>\n
Eyewitnesses said the fire started at 3 a.m. at a stall in the
\nmiddle of the market, which is located on the coast of the Peleng
\nStrait.<\/p>\n
Locals said firefighters did not reach the scene until three
\nhours later, and only extinguished the blaze at 9:30 a.m.<\/p>\n
Banggai Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Guntur Widodo said the
\npolice were investigating the incident but he suspected the fire
\nwas started by a short circuit.<\/p>\n
\"There is nothing we could do. Everything was destroyed by the
\nfire,\" cried Marawiyah, one of the approximately 300 vendors at
\nthe market.<\/p>\n
This was the second time the Simpong market was destroyed by
\nfire, with a blaze in 1999 razing all the stalls. -- Antara<\/p>\n
Semarang tries pollution-free zone<\/p>\n
SEMARANG: The Semarang mayoralty administration will introduce
\nthe Pollution-Free Simpang Lima zone in July on a trial basis.<\/p>\n
During the trial period, all motorized vehicles will be banned
\nfrom the area, which is surrounded by shopping centers, from 5
\na.m. to 9 a.m.<\/p>\n
If the trial is successful, the administration will ban all
\nmotorized vehicles from the area on Sunday mornings.<\/p>\n
The head of the administration's information and communication
\ndivison, Masrohan Bahri, said on Saturday the program was aimed
\nat \"turning Semarang into a clean city\".<\/p>\n
He said a joint team from the provincial transportation
\nagency, the city police and the public order officer would
\nsupervise the trial.<\/p>\n
In support of the program, the administration also will

Gorontalo to get naval base<\/p>\n
GORONTALO, Gorontalo: A naval base is to be established near
\nTomini Bay to combat the increasing number of foreign trawlers
\nillegally fishing in Indonesian waters.<\/p>\n
Gorontalo Governor Fadel Muhammad said on Saturday Navy Chief
\nof Staff Adm. Bernard Sondakh had approved the plan.<\/p>\n
He said that with the base, the Navy would be able to pursue
\nlegal action against foreign trawlers illegally fishing in
\nIndonesian waters without having to go to Bitung, North sulawesi.<\/p>\n
Fadel said he hoped the naval base would discourage foreign
