Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated that portable fire\nextinguishers (APAR) have been provided in every neighbourhood unit (RW)\nacross Jakarta. The provision of these extinguishers is a preventative\nmeasure against fires in Jakarta during the dry season.<\/p>\n
Pramono noted that he had instructed his administration to ensure\nAPAR availability in every RW, adding that the programme is currently\nunderway.<\/p>\n
\u201cI also wanted to ensure that APAR is available in every RW so that\nif anything happens, our collective anticipation is already in place,\u201d\nPramono said at Monas, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (2\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
When asked about the coverage of extinguishers at the regional level,\nPramono mentioned that every RW is targeted to possess an APAR. He\nexpressed confidence that the programme has now been fulfilled.<\/p>\n
\u201cI requested every RW to have them, and since this programme is\nalready running, I am confident that every RW now possesses them,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Pramono emphasised the importance of preparedness in\nfacing the dry season. According to reports from the Jakarta Regional\nDisaster Management Agency (BPBD), 457 fire incidents occurred in\nJakarta between July and August 2026. In August alone, the number of\nfires reached 240 cases.<\/p>\n
Pramono mentioned that electrical short circuits are the most\ndominant suspected cause of these fires. Other causes include waste\nburning and negligence, such as the improper disposal of cigarette\nbutts.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe most dominant cause is electrical short circuits. Secondly,\nthere is waste burning, and some incidents occur due to negligence, such\nas people discarding cigarette butts, and so on,\u201d Pramono said.<\/p>\n
West Jakarta recorded the highest number of fires, followed by East\nJakarta.
