Fire hits Kowani building<\/p>\n

JAKARTA (JP): Fire fighters (photo above) are busy putting out
\nthe huge fire that destroyed the two-storey Indonesian Women's
\nCongress (Kowani) building at Jl. Imam Bonjol No. 58 at noon on
\nWednesday.<\/p>\n
No fatalities were reported.<\/p>\n
At least five fire engines attended the blaze and managed to
\nput out the fire some 30 minutes after it started.<\/p>\n
Central Jakarta Fire department officers suspected the fire
\nwas caused by an electrical short circuit. Police detectives were
\nstill looking into the matter.<\/p>\n
Kowani employees were seen running from the building, trying
\nto save from the fire whatever goods they could carry.<\/p>\n
Total losses caused by the fire have yet to be calculated.<\/p>\n
The side of Jl Imam Bonjol that normally carries traffic
\nheading toward Jl. Diponegoro was closed temporarily due to the
\nincident.<\/p>\n
Earlier on Tuesday, two huge fires, on Jl. Lodan Raya in
\nAncol, North Jakarta, and in the Pulogadung area of East Jakarta,
\nleft thousands of people homeless.<\/p>\n
Displaced residents had to sleep in makeshift tents they had
\nput up around the site of the fires, while they waited for
\ndonations of food and clothing from city residents. (ylt)<\/p>",
