Fire destroys street cafes<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A fire gutted a street cafe belonging to movie
\nand television star Roy Marten in the parking lot of the National
\nMonument park in Central Jakarta on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n
The fire that engulfed the Bale-bale Roy Marten cafe, designed
\nto house hundreds of small street stalls, is thought to have
\nstarted at about 3:45 p.m., on the roof of stand number 61, which
\nwas made of bamboo and dried coconut leaves.<\/p>\n
No fatalities were reported and material losses had not been
\nestimated, as the actor could not be reached for comment.<\/p>\n
The fire burned the entire roof and a large part of the cafe
\nbuilding. It also damaged parts of the other neighboring cafes,
\nwhich were made of plastic sheet.<\/p>\n
No one at the scene the source of the fire, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
\"The fire was suddenly seen on the roof,\" a witness said.<\/p>\n
Security guards stationed at the nearby water fountain on Jl.
\nMedan Merdeka Barat rushed to the site, threw water on the flames
\nand stopped it spreading by dismantling some of the neighboring
\nstreet cafes, according to witnesses.<\/p>\n
The fire brigade arrived 15 minutes later to fully extinguish
\nthe blaze.<\/p>\n
The street cafe site was launched by Governor Sutiyoso in the
\nmiddle of 1998 to allow people from all walks of life, including
\nartists and university students, to run a small business for
