The incident occurred on 8\nJuly, and handling was only completed yesterday, 14 July. The terrain\nposed challenges, as it is located on the banks of the Cikeas River,\u201d\nsaid Lukman Habibi, Deputy Commander of the Bogor Regency Fire\nDepartment\u2019s Gunungputri Sector, on Thursday (16\/7\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Lukman stated the fire produced thick smoke, disturbing residents in\nnearby housing estates. The flames were extinguished on Tuesday (14\/7),\nbut smoke has now reappeared from the landfill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the initial incident, the smoke was indeed thick and dense in\nthe afternoon. That is why many residents from the surrounding housing\nestates complained,\u201d Lukman said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last update was on Tuesday, the fire was out and resolved.\nHowever, information today indicates smoke is emerging again,\u201d he\ncontinued.<\/p>\n<p>A similar account was provided by M Adam Hamdani, Head of Emergency\nat the Bogor Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). Adam\nsaid a BPBD team was deployed to the site today to handle the fire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe final situation is that the land area is still emitting smoke.\nIt requires fire suppression units,\u201d Adam said when contacted\nseparately.<\/p>\n<p>The fire was reported on Wednesday (8\/7) evening at around 8.20 p.m.\nWestern Indonesian Time. Handling was carried out by a joint team of\nfirefighters and disaster volunteers from Bogor Regency. The fire is\nsuspected to have been caused by the site manager burning a mattress on\na waste pile up to 10 metres deep.<\/p>\n<p>It was previously reported that a video of the allegedly illegal\nlandfill fire in Cikeas Village, Gunungputri District, Bogor Regency,\nwent viral on social media. The smoke from the waste pile drew\ncomplaints for disturbing residents.<\/p>\n<p>Lukman Habib, Deputy Commander of the Gunungputri Fire Sector, said\nthe event in the video occurred on Tuesday (14\/7\/2026).
