Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD will summon the management and\nresidents of Mediterania Garden Residences apartment in Tanjung Duren,\nWest Jakarta, to determine the cause of the fire.<\/p>\n
Kevin Wu, a member of Commission A from the PSI faction, stated that\na comprehensive evaluation of the fire\u2019s cause is necessary to ensure\nsuch an incident, which endangered hundreds of lives, does not\nrecur.<\/p>\n
This statement follows complaints from residents about the\nnon-functioning alarm and sprinkler system when thick smoke engulfed\nTower C on Thursday (30\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, my purpose in coming here is to witness it directly, not\njust the process; we also ensure that the community is protected. As a\nresult of this incident, we will invite all parties to evaluate it,\nincluding the building management, once the investigation results are\nknown together,\u201d said Kevin after inspecting the affected residents at\nthe scene on Thursday.<\/p>\n
\u201c(Apartment residents) as witnesses, yes, for our evaluation we will\ninvite them too. An evaluation naturally requires looking at the factual\nconditions, so both sides must be clear,\u201d Kevin added.<\/p>\n
However, he said that for now, all parties must first focus on\nrecovery efforts and the police investigation.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, the investigation results will serve as the main basis\nfor the DPRD to demand explanations and accountability.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe police will certainly investigate directly to identify the\nsource of the problem. But it is from those reports that we will bring\nto the evaluation meeting. We will invite all parties, including the\ngovernment, management, eyewitnesses, and even the officers who fought\nextraordinarily earlier,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cI appreciate the quick and immediate action. The decision\nprioritised extinguishing the fire, followed by evacuation. We can see\nthe rapid work from the apparatus and all personnel, which meant there\nwere no casualties today,\u201d Kevin said.<\/p>\n
For information, several residents claimed they did not hear the fire\nalarm when smoke filled their unit corridors.<\/p>\n
\u201cI live on the 28th floor; from the time the fire started at 8\no\u2019clock, I did not hear the alarm or the sprinkler. What we experienced\non the 28th floor was smoke already coming out from the emergency\nstairs,\u201d said Antonius (47), a resident on the 28th floor.<\/p>\n
In agreement, Joy (24), a resident on the 26th floor, also claimed\nshe did not hear any alarm.<\/p>\n
