        "content": "<p>The Jakarta-based Hajj pilgrim Mohamad Firdaus (72), who had gone\nmissing in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, has been found dead. This was announced\nby Moh Hasan Afandi, head of the Public Relations Bureau at the Republic\nof Indonesia\u2019s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. \u2018Mr.\u00a0Firdaus has been found\ndead. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji\u2019un,\u2019 he said at a press\nconference in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, on Friday, 22 May 2026, according to\nAntara.<\/p>\n<p>The Indonesian Hajj Supervisory Committee (PPIH) in Saudi Arabia\nexpressed condolences for Firdaus\u2019s death, he added. He thanked the\nfamily of the deceased, the Consulate General of the Republic of\nIndonesia (KJRI) in Jeddah, Saudi authorities, Saudi hospitals, and the\nHajj officials who conducted the search. \u2018We also thank Indonesians who\nprayed for us during the search process,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>The government has said it will honour the deceased\u2019s rights through\na Hajj substitute (badal haji). \u2018The Hajj substitute will be carried out\nby Hajj officials,\u2019 he stated.<\/p>\n<p>He urged all parties to look out for one another. If a pilgrim is\nseen walking alone and appears confused or exhausted, they should be\napproached and helped, particularly the elderly, women, and those with\ndisabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Firdaus had disappeared after leaving his accommodation in\nMecca on 15 May 2026. CCTV footage showed him leaving wearing a white\nT-shirt and a black sarong. It was suspected that the hotel was quiet at\nthe time as other pilgrims had already gone to perform Friday\nprayers.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia received\nFirdaus\u2019s disappearance report via the Kawal Haji app on 16 May 2026.\nSearches were conducted around the hotel, at Masjid al-Haram, and at\nhospitals in Mecca and surrounding areas.<\/p>",
