The UN Refugee\nAgency (UNHCR) confirmed Finland\u2019s contribution to sustain life-saving\naid and protection for Rohingya refugees. \u201cThis increased contribution\nenables UNHCR to continue critical assistance, including in underfunded\nareas such as skills development and resilience programmes,\u201d UNHCR Dhaka\nstated on Sunday. Nearly a decade after fleeing violence and persecution\nin their home country, Myanmar, around 1.2 million Rohingya remain in\nBangladesh amid dwindling global financial support. As funding declines,\nthe most vulnerable groups\u2014women and girls, persons with disabilities,\nthe elderly, and approximately 150,000 new arrivals since early\n2024\u2014bear the heaviest burden, many still without shelter due to\novercrowded camps, the UN agency said. \u201cAs the Rohingya response enters\na fragile phase\u2014marked by declining funding, deteriorating camp\nconditions, heightened protection risks, and ongoing instability in\nMyanmar\u2014Finland\u2019s increased aid commitment demonstrates significant\ngenerosity,\u201d said Ivo Freijsen, UNHCR representative in Bangladesh.
