Findings suggest Oki killed own brother<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Further questioning of Hernoko Dewantono, alias
\nOki, has led police to believe that the suspect killed his
\nbrother Tri Harto Darmawan, known as Eri.<\/p>\n
\"So far part of the findings collected by the city police
\ninvestigators in Los Angeles confirms Oki's confession that he
\nkilled his brother,\" outgoing Jakarta Police Chief Maj. Gen.
\nMochammad Hindarto said yesterday.<\/p>\n
\"Thus, we need more material evidence to prove his alleged
\nrole in the killing of the other two victims,\" he said.<\/p>\n
During the interrogation here, Oki reportedly confessed that,
\nbesides killing Eri, he also killed Gina Sutan Aswar, a young
\nIndonesian woman, and Suresh Michandani of Indian origin.<\/p>\n
Hindarto said that the tentative findings have not yet
\nrevealed the alleged role of other suspects in the triple murder.<\/p>\n
Oki, 30, was arrested in Central Jakarta on Jan. 7 on the
\nallegation of passport forgery and has since been questioned for
\nhis alleged role in the triple murder.<\/p>\n
The motive of the killing is still unknown. Gina and Suresh
\nwere Oki's business partners, while it is believed his brother
\nknew many things about Oki's activities.<\/p>\n
The three were believed to have been killed in separate places
\nin Los Angeles between 1991 and 1993. Their decomposed bodies
\nwere found together in a storage locker in August last year and
\nwere identified four months later.<\/p>\n
Besides questioning the main suspect and a number of witnesses
\nhere, a team of senior police detectives were sent to the United
\nStates last week and are still there collecting evidence and
\nquestioning other witnesses.<\/p>\n
During the questioning, Oki gave two different versions of the
\nkilling, said Hindarto.<\/p>\n
He allegedly once told the investigating officers that he
\nkilled the three himself using different weapons, including a
\ngun, hammer, baseball bat and a monkey wrench.<\/p>\n
During the other questioning session, he reportedly confessed
\nto killing his brother in self-defense when Eri, who he said had
\nshot Suresh and murdered Gina, pointed a gun at him.<\/p>\n
But, Hindarto said, the complete story of the murder could be
\nrevealed only after the arrival of his team from Los Angeles next
\nweek.<\/p>\n
\"They will return with two Los Angeles detectives who are
\ngoing to check our findings here,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Later, the two police groups will compare their findings and
\ncompile a dossier on the case, Hindarto said at a press
\nconference, which was arranged as his last meeting with city
\ncrime reporters.<\/p>\n
He is going to be replaced by his deputy, Brig. Gen. Dibyo
\nWidodo, today.<\/p>\n
In a related development Oki's father, Hendarno Hendarmin,
\nheld a press meeting at his residence to emphasize that his son
\nhas agreed to be represented by lawyers from the Ruhut Sitompoel,
