Finding a better solution<\/p>\n
The government-run Public Administration Institute (STPDN) in
\nSumedang district in Indonesia's West Java province, has been
\nwidely criticized following the controversial death of student,
\nWahyu Hidayat, last Sept. 2 after he was allegedly beaten by
\nseniors at the institute.<\/p>\n
Besides Wahyu, the institute has a dark history of the
\ncontroversial deaths of Eri Rakhman in 2000 and Aliyan bin Jerani
\nin 1993.<\/p>\n
Many people have condemned the institute for its military
\nstyle of education. Critics have thus asked the government to
\nclose it.<\/p>\n
This daily has suggested that leaders and lecturers of the
\ninstitute should be held responsible for the death of the
\nstudents as it is impossible for them not to know about the
\ncrimes.<\/p>\n
Closing the institute would not be the right decision as the
\nschool was set up not to kill people but to create leaders.<\/p>\n
It would thus be better to replace the institute's educational
\nsystem and fire instructors.<\/p>\n
The death of Wahyu Hidayat should be the last such case in
\nSTPDN.<\/p>\n
