Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has disclosed that he has\nreported to President Prabowo Subianto regarding plans to take over PT\nPermodalan Nasional Madani (PNM).<\/p>\n
Purbaya intends to position PNM as a Special Mission Vehicle (SMV)\nunder the Finance Ministry. \u201cI have already informed the president: Sir,\nthere is this plan (to take over), if it is permissible,\u201d he said when\nmet by journalists at the Finance Ministry.<\/p>\n
According to Purbaya, the president responded: \u201cHe said to calculate\nit, if it is good, why not.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, Purbaya stated that no final decision has been made. He is\ncontinuing discussions with Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani. \u201cWe are\ncontinuing discussions with Mr Rosan on what the best course of action\nis for the state in channelling People\u2019s Business Credit (KUR) and\ncredit for small and medium enterprises,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
As is known, PNM currently operates under PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia\n(BRI). BRI Managing Director Hery Gunardi said he was unaware of\nPurbaya\u2019s request. \u201cThere has been nothing yet. No [discussions],\u201d Hery\nsaid when met at Wisma Danantara.<\/p>\n
Previously, Purbaya explained that PNM is a public business entity.\nIf it is tasked with executing Public Service Obligations (PSO) or\ngovernment service obligations, this could potentially harm BRI\u2019s\nvaluation.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo I think if a unit is executing PSO, the government mostly uses it\nitself. I am discussing with Mr Rosan whether it is possible or not. If\nhe does not approve, then that is that,\u201d Purbaya concluded when met\nseparately at Wisma Danantara.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, Purbaya stated that banks can also continue channelling\nKUR as usual. However, he has already designed a programme whereby\ngovernment KUR will be distributed solely through PNM. \u201cThat is roughly\nthe scheme. You calculate now, how much do I [pay] in KUR interest\nsubsidies? Rp40 trillion is lost. If I channel it through PNM, as long\nas it is not lost, with low interest there is still money.
