Tangerang (ANTARA) - Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated\nthat the increase in gold smuggling cases out of the country in 2026 is\nsuspected to have been triggered by the additional incentive of export\nduty on gold exports.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe activity increased because currently an export duty is imposed\non gold, so perpetrators who are reluctant to pay try to smuggle it to\nmake a profit,\u201d Purbaya said during the disclosure of a 23.793 kilogram\ngold export smuggling case worth Rp63 billion at Soekarno-Hatta Airport,\nTangerang, Banten, on Thursday.<\/p>\n
He said that the existence of the export duty on gold has caused\nsyndicates and perpetrators to increase their smuggling activities\nrecklessly using various methods in order to gain profit.<\/p>\n
\u201cPreviously this was not so rampant, but now it is rampant because\nthere is an additional incentive for those who take it out without\npaying,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, his ministry, through the Directorate General of\nCustoms and Excise, is increasing supervision and investigations into\nthe main players behind the rampant gold smuggling from within the\ncountry.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is strongly suspected to have links with illegal mining (PETI)\nparties. The implemented policy has proven to be quite disruptive to the\nrelated PETI parties, resulting in an increase in smuggling. Supervision\nat all exit points in Indonesia will be tightened,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Director of Specific Crimes at the National Police\nCriminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General Mohammad Irhamni, added\nthat the discovery of the case involving tens of kilogrammes of gold by\nCustoms indicates criminal violations committed by the parties\ninvolved.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs long as there are illegal mining activities, the smuggling\nnetwork will continue to modify its modus operandi so that gold can\nleave Indonesian territory. PETI is certainly closely linked to this\nsmuggling,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In this regard, he confirmed that the National Police, as a law\nenforcement institution, is committed to investigating the gold\nsmuggling case, including searching for parties directly involved in the\nsyndicate.<\/p>\n
