Figures declare propriety movement<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: A group of artists and leading figures campaigning
\nfor civil society declared on Saturday a movement to promote
\npropriety in the society.<\/p>\n
Among the signatories of the declaration were poets W.S.
\nRendra and Taufiq Ismail, musician Jockie Suryoprayogo, antigraft
\ncampaigners Koesnadi Hardjasoemantri and Teten Masduki, political
\nanalyst Eep Syaifullah Fatah, economist Faisal Basri and the
\nhost, Yogyakarta governor Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.<\/p>\n
\"The participants of the movement intend to play a role and
\nact as an agent of reform in the nation that is facing a slump,\"
\nHamengkubuwono said.<\/p>\n
The movement, he added, was aimed at reminding the state, the
\nbusiness community and the public of uncivilized practices, which
\nwere prevailing in all sectors. Corruption, nepotism and
\ncollusion, which have continued unabated are largely a result of
\nback-room deals among the three entities, the sultan said. -- JP<\/p>",
