Java<\/p>\n<p>SEMARANG: The Ministry of Health has reportedly committed<br>\nitself to combat malaria, which has plagued 13 regencies in<br>\nCentral Java.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry's commitment has been made evident through the<br>\nprovision of a fund at the directorate general of communicable<br>\ndisease and environment improvement, said a member of the Central<br>\nJava Legislative Council, only identified as Sitompul, on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Sitompul explained that 60 people had reportedly died from<br>\nmalaria over the last 18 months, with thousands of others being<br>\ninfected.<\/p>\n<p>The areas severely hit by malaria include, among others,<br>\nPurworejo, Banjarnegara, Magelang, Wonosobo, Purbalingga, Kebumen<br>\nand Jepara.<\/p>\n<p>He said that areas hit by the disease were mostly coastal<br>\nareas near neglected fish ponds and large areas of bushes, which<br>\nwere ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes. -- JP<\/p>",
