        "content": "<p>Fifth no-show for Tommy<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Hutomo &quot;Tommy&quot; Mandala Putra, the youngest son of<br>\nformer president Soeharto, failed for the fifth time to testify<br>\nin the trial of Islamic boarding school leader Abdullah Sidiq<br>\nMuin at the Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the trial, the panel of judges had decided that<br>\nTommy as a primary witness would be forcefully taken to court.<\/p>\n<p>However, the same panel of judges had allowed him another two<br>\nweeks to show up, after state prosecutors said Tommy was ill and<br>\nneeded to rest.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The letter from the Batu Penitentiary warden in<br>\nNusakambangan, Central Java, clearly stated that Tommy was ill<br>\nand thus, unable to attend the trial,&quot; presiding judge Panusunan<br>\nHarahap said.<\/p>\n<p>Sidiq, the spiritual leader of former president Abdurrahman<br>\n&quot;Gus Dur&quot; Wahid, is standing trial for allegedly extorting Rp 15<br>\nbillion (US$1.76 million) from Tommy.<\/p>\n<p>Defense lawyer Budi Santoso was disappointed with Tommy&apos;s no-<br>\nshow, saying that the trial &quot;could not be managed by someone who<br>\nwas locked up in prison.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>The judges adjourned the trial for Jan. 27. -- JP<\/p>",
